Chinese (Mandarin) for Beginners

About this opportunity

Develop practical Mandarin skills for everyday situations, including travel, shopping, ordering food, and daily conversations. Ideal for complete beginners with no prior knowledge of Mandarin.

Learning Chinese helps learners build direct cultural communication with local Chinese communities, removing language barriers during cultural events and daily exchanges. Besides, China’s new visa waiver scheme makes trips to China much easier, while learning Chinese adds plenty of fun to your life and travels.

About Confucius Institute, the University of Southampton

The University of Southampton Confucius Institute (CI) was formally opened in October 2011 in collaboration with our Chinese partners at Xiamen University, P.R. China. Since that date we have been working on a series of workshops and events to raise the profile of the Confucius Institute at the University and amongst the local community. Our long-term aim is to establish and support the provision of opportunities to study of all aspects of modern China, including language and culture, from primary school through to University level.
