Free home safety and security visits and internet safety support for older and vulnerable people. We deliver two free community safety services designed to reduce crime, prevent fire and protect against online threats:
1. Safe Home
Free home safety visits helping older and vulnerable residents stay safe and secure across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
- Door and window locks
- Spyholes and door chains
- Long-life smoke alarms
- Carbon monoxide detectors
- Other approved safety equipment
This service is free for those who qualify.
Safe Home is available to residents who are:
Vulnerable Adults:
- Over 65’s
- With learning disabilities
- Suffering from addiction
- With long-term illnesses
- With mental health difficulties such as dementia, bipolar disorder, etc.
- Living in hazardous or unsafe living conditions
- Who are self-neglecting
- Who are financially disadvantaged (Self-referral not accepted – referral must come from a support service provider or food bank)

Victim of burglary
Repeat victim of crime
Victim of domestic abuse (Self-referral not accepted – must come from police or domestic abuse support team)

2. Safe Online
Free online safety visits and guidance for older and vulnerable residents across Hampshire.
Our trained, police-vetted volunteer advisers visit homes to deliver practical, easy-to-understand online safety advice. We help people protect themselves from scams, fraud, identity theft and other threats to their digital security.
During each visit or session, our advisers will:
- Explain what online scams, fraud and phishing look like
- Help check and adjust privacy and security settings
- Show how to spot suspicious emails, texts or calls
- Offer guidance on safe passwords, software updates and antivirus tools
- Signpost additional support and resources
- Advise how to report incidents
Who It’s For
This service is completely free for those who qualify.
Safe Online is available to adults in Hampshire who meet at least one of these criteria:
- Over 60
- Living with a disability
- A past victim of online fraud or cyber-enabled crime
Referrals can be made by individuals, family members, friends, carers, housing officers, medical professionals, support workers or community organisations.
Regrettably, we are unable to accept referrals for anyone under 18 or for victims of domestic abuse.
In addition to one-to-one home visits, our advisers regularly deliver talks to local groups.
These sessions cover topics such as:
- Recognising scams
- Safe online transactions
- Protecting accounts and devices
- Reporting fraud
