About this opportunity

How can you help
We are seeking Home Library Service volunteers to select and deliver books and other library materials to people in their own home or care setting. Working alongside library staff and supported by the Home Library Service Coordinator, you will choose books based on customers reading preferences and arrange a time to drop off and collect materials.

The role involves the opportunity to share a coffee and chat with customers. We aim to match you with someone in your local area. Travel expenses will be paid if required, but we would like the service to have a minimum impact on the environment.

The role usually requires a commitment of one day each month.

The ideal candidate is

  • Friendly and loves to support people in the community
  • Patient, understanding, and gets along with people
  • Reliable and approachable
  • Interested in books, people, and libraries
  • Understands the importance of and can maintain confidentiality
  • Can carry a bag of up to eight books or materials
  • Able to drive, and has access to a car and full driving licence (desirable)
