Kennel Volunteer

About this opportunity

We are looking for volunteers to join our friendly team caring for our greyhounds whilst they wait for their own forever homes.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Feeding our greyhounds breakfast or dinner, depending on the shift
  • Ensuring our hounds have just the right food for them and medication if needed
  • Cleaning the kennel kitchen and kennels once all the hounds have eaten
  • Being mindful of health and safety and following the steps we’ll show you to keep all our hounds and team safe
  • Reporting back to our kennel manager if you notice anything out of the ordinary about any of the hounds
  • Making sure the kitchen and kennels are secure at the end of your shift
  • Sometimes helping with food deliveries and stock taking
  • The poo pick of the kennel garden – what goes in, must come out!
  • Getting to know the hounds in our care and enjoying some cuddles and the famous greyhound lean

About You:

  • This is an active role which can be physically demanding but very rewarding so you’ll need to be able to manage the activities
  • You’ll need to be able to get yourself to and from the kennels so access to a vehicle is helpful
  • You’ll be part of a small team of volunteers so being able to get on with people is a must
  • Sometimes you’ll be on your own so being trustworthy and able to work independently is key
  • We’ll give you full training but you’ll need to be confident around larger, sometimes very happy and bouncy dogs
  • We’d love you to be able to commit to regular shift at least once a week – shifts are usually around 2 hours

What’s in it for you?

  • You’ll get hands on experience of dog care with some incredibly lovely greyhounds
  • You’ll be part of the team playing a part in getting our hounds to their forever homes
  • We’ll give you full training for your role
  • You’ll have the love and cuddles of the greyhounds you’re caring for
  • Volunteering is great for your CV and even better for your wellbeing
