Sasha Foundation – supporting young people with mental issues. Ongoing.

About this opportunity

Sasha Foundation
Welcome to The Sasha Foundation website. The Sasha Foundation (TSF) was set up to support charities that work with mental health issues in memory of Sasha Love.

Sasha was an adventurous, outgoing and outdoors girl with an enormous empathy for those troubled by the world they faced. She travelled in Kenya, Nepal, Australia and many corners of Europe.

The Foundation is endowed to provide financial support and guidance to established charitable organisations that the trustees believe would be her choice and ambition to support if she were here to decide.

In the UK this involves supporting young people with a bias towards young people, who are suffering from depression and mental health issues or who are confronting drug abuse issues.

Additionally, it involves supporting education and healthcare projects and programs in the third world, with a bias towards education for young women.

Sasha Love suffered from Bipolar disorder. After a long battle with her condition, Sasha took her life in 2009. The founders of TSF want her memory to live on through the support it can provide to other sufferers of mental health conditions.

Grants of up to £10,000, are available to organisations working at a grassroots level to support young people facing mental health challenges or who are confronting drug abuse issues. The Foundation also supports education and healthcare projects in Developing Countries, with a focus on education for young women.

How to apply

Grants will only be awarded to projects or programs being run by established charitable bodies and will not be awarded to individuals.

Applications must be submitted in writing using the Sasha Foundation grant application form which can be downloaded here. They can be submitted by email or by post to the Foundation’s accountants, Richardson Swift.

At minimum, the trustees will meet twice a year to consider applications: the associate deadlines each year for submitting applications are 01/04 and 01/10. In assessing applications they will follow the processes set out in the Sasha Foundation Grant Making Policy, which can be downloaded here.

Typically grants will be up to £10,000 and at most will be for 50% of the total budgeted cost of the proposed project/program.

Applications must set out the expected outcomes from the project/program, how outcomes will be assessed and how they will be reported back to the Sasha Foundation trustees.

The trustees are empowered to solicit applications from charitable organisations that they are aware off and which operate in areas relevant to the Foundations objectives. They will also short list and assess unsolicited applications for support.

Any attempt by an applicant to approach the trustees directly to solicit support for or influence the assessment of a specific application will most likely result in the application being rejected.

Other than notifying them of their decision, the trustees will not enter into any correspondence or discussion with applicants with respect to any decision not to support a grant application.
