SCM Marketplaces Food Clubs in Southampton

About this opportunity

SCM Marketplace is a community food membership scheme for local people who want to benefit from access to affordable, fresh, healthy food in an inclusive, supportive environment.

SCM Marketplaces have been designed to complement our existing emergency food and clothes project SCM Basics Bank (where those in emergency need can be referred for free clothes and food parcels for themselves and their families), by offering less urgent, longer term Food Aid support for those in danger of falling into food poverty.

Our Marketplaces aim to offer choice and dignity through personal selection of discounted, quality, fresh, refrigerated and frozen food products to supplement people’s weekly shopping. They are also intended to be small, welcoming communities offering all of the health and wellbeing benefits of being in regular contact with a supportive network of peers and friends. Additional support will be offered by having regular visits and workshops by other charities and agencies such as Social Prescribers, Debt Advice, Mental Health nurses etc.

The Marketplaces are being developed around our values of:

  • Participation & collaboration,
  • Independence & wellbeing,
  • Supportive friendships.

Having got in touch with SCM and filled out a membership form, new members will be invited for a membership chat and receive copies of the membership agreement and relevant policies.

Our venues run a waiting list, but please still register an interest via the become a member page

For a weekly £5 membership subscription, Marketplace members can come on the day their Marketplace is open, use the members café, chat to members and volunteers, talk to any visiting advice agencies, and choose around 13 items from the fridges, freezers, fresh fruit and veg, bakery, ambient food products and toiletries.
