About the opportunity: 
Ready to make a difference to a young person’s life? Tutoring once a week for one school term can transform a pupil’s confidence, grades, and future options! 
 
What is the role?
Team Up is seeking dynamic volunteers to help transform the lives of disadvantaged pupils by delivering in-person Maths or English tuition at a local secondary school.
 
Description of duties:
We are looking for inspirational role models who will tutor Maths or English at a local secondary school in Southampton, starting mid-September 2026. You will be matched with a small number of pupils who are currently underperforming and provide them with the academic support and encouragement they need to get back on track.
 
All our volunteer tutors receive full training, lesson resources, and support from a qualified teacher throughout their placement. Alongside this meaningful experience, you will also be able to gain access to our mentorship scheme (for tutors aged 16-25), online employability seminars, as well as receiving a personalised reference upon completion.
 
This is an opportunity to enhance your CV, improve your employability skills, and be part of a fun and supportive team – all whilst supporting young people from low-income backgrounds! 
 
What are we looking for?
  • Enthusiasm and strong grades in Maths or English
  • Committed and organised individuals who are keen to develop new skills
  • Individuals who are passionate about helping to reduce the education attainment gap
  • Good interpersonal skills when dealing with pupils
 
We ask applicants to complete an application form, online interview and free of charge DBS check. Team Up offer reimbursement of travel expenses up to £15 per attended tuition session.
