Volunteer Mentor – Support Girls and Young Women in Southampton

About this opportunity

Volunteer Mentor for Girls and Young Women (Southampton)

Could you help a local girl feel more confident about her future?

The Girls’ Network is looking for women volunteers to become mentors for girls attending schools across Southampton. Through our mentoring programme, you’ll support a young person to recognise her strengths, explore future opportunities and build confidence in herself and her abilities.

As a mentor, you’ll be matched with one girl and meet with her for six monthly sessions over approximately six months. Together, you’ll have conversations about her interests, aspirations and the possibilities available to her. You don’t need to have all the answers – often the most valuable thing you can offer is encouragement, curiosity and someone who believes in her potential.

We welcome women from all backgrounds and walks of life. Whether you’re employed, retired, self-employed or currently not working, your experiences could make a real difference to a young person’s future.

We’ll provide full training before you begin, along with ongoing support throughout the programme.

What you’ll need:

  • To be aged 25 or over
  • At least three years’ experience of work or workplaces
  • To commit around 2–3 hours per month for six months
  • A passion for supporting girls and young women

Just a few hours each month can help a girl feel more confident, broaden her horizons and realise what she’s capable of.

We’d love to hear from you. Click here for more information

About The Girls' Network

The Girls’ Network is a charity that believes no girl’s future should be limited by her background, gender or parental income. We partner with schools and colleges to connect girls and young women with volunteer mentors and inspiring female role models who help them build confidence, develop new skills and think positively about their futures. Through one-to-one mentoring, workshops and development opportunities, we support girls to recognise their strengths, broaden their horizons and explore the opportunities available to them. Our mentors come from a wide range of backgrounds and professions and provide encouragement, insight and a positive example of what is possible. Since 2013, we have supported thousands of girls and young women across the UK to grow in confidence, raise their aspirations and take positive steps towards achieving their ambitions. We are currently recruiting volunteer mentors in Southampton and the surrounding area to support girls attending local schools through our mentoring programmes.
