Information & Advice Volunteer

About this opportunity

Assisting with delivery of the Information & Advice (I&A) service to improve the lives of older people across the city, and support, promote and enhance the profile of Age UK Southampton (AUKS). Age UK Southampton’s I&A service provides information and advice to older people on matters such as welfare benefits, health and social care, housing and local services.

Volunteering is satisfying and rewarding, and a great way of developing new skills and meeting new people.  We value all our volunteers and the time they commit, and welcome enquiries from all sections of the community. Your help is vital to us and the older people of Southampton.

Office-based volunteer:

Working from our office in Padwell Road, your role will be to help with the delivery of our information and advice service to individual older people. You’ll be dealing with information enquiries from clients, setting up client appointments, posting out information and helping to maintain resources. With further training there is the option to become a volunteer adviser dealing with more complex advice enquiries.

Community based volunteer:

Our volunteers visit older people in their own homes, and complete telephone appointments, to help them fill in disability benefit forms and provide information on core subjects.  There’s scope to complete home visits to help with other types of forms and advice, depending on experience.
